If you're a hippie at heart then this is the beach for you. Popular with bohemian and laid-back jet-setters, Benirràs beach is relaxing and family friendly. After taking a relaxing trip through the hills and valleys, Ibiza explorers will come across one of the island’s most beautiful and atmospheric Ibiza beaches – Benirràs.

Stretching over 160 meters long and 40 meters wide, Benirràs beach is a charming sight of partially pebbled, partially sandy land, surrounded by mountainous cliffs of greenery and wildlife, with picturesque fisherman shacks contributing to its charm.

The crystal clear and calm waters in conjunction with a rocky sea bed makes the beach a snorkeling dream... although one should consider wearing water shoes in order to venture into the sea comfortably.

Enchanting views across the water, lead to a striking rock formation, Cap Bernat, referred to by the locals as ‘the finger of God’. Also known as Carall Bernat and Cavall Bernat, local legend tells that a neighbor of Benirràs had a horse named Bernat, which the Archangel San Miguel turned into rock. When he saw it, Benirràs exclaimed, “Carall, Bernat! Pobret, com t’has quedat!”(Bernat horse, how did you end up like this), explaining the other two names, with which the islet is also known. It was said that anyone who managed to reach the top of the stone horse immediately change sex. A myth of the rock that should be ignored by those who are tempted by climbing it! If you are visiting in the evening, look out towards Cap Bernat to see a magnificent orange sunset of exquisite beauty.

Being the heart of the bohemian community on Ibiza, many gather along the beach at sundown, paying homage to this Ibizan tradition. It is not uncommon to hear bongo drums, and be entertained by belly dancers and fire throwers as these sessions are in action. The perfect end to a relaxing beach day! The bay is sheltered, which makes it a favored spot for private yacht owners, all gathering in the evening to experience the exotic nightfall, away from the crowds.

Benirràs includes fabulous facilities including loungers, parasols, showers, public toilets and seasonal lifeguards. Wheelchair accessibility makes Benirràs open to all. Other activities on Benirràs beach include pedalos on the water, nearby bohemian markets, and amazing restaurants meaning you can spend as much time as possible relaxing at Benirràs without worrying about food or getting bored! If you're looking for a relaxing, bohemian experience with a little spark, Benirràs is definitely the place for you.

There are a few restaurants dotted on the beach. Elements Beach Club is the most popular, offering a fabulously fresh menu plus an amazing pizzeria, as well as yoga events, music and entertainment. A boutique clothing shop offering bohemian style fashion from local designers is another great addition not to miss.

Benirràs is approximately a 10 minute drive from San Miguel on the North-West coast, a 20 minute drive from San Antonio and a 30 minute drive from Ibiza town. Following the signs from San Miguel down the winding roads for ten minutes is really all the directions you need, its well sign-posted and when you are there, you will know it!

Benirràs has two car parks with space for 400 cars. Unfortunately between the months of June to September, the road leading down to the beach is sometimes closed when parking is full to capacity. However, buses do generally run throughout these months from San Antonio, Ibiza Town and Sa Plana.

Whilst there is limited parking for the bay, arrival around lunchtime should ensure a space along the twisting road, which welcomes you into the valley. From that point on, you can enjoy a relaxing mid-afternoon stroll to the beach itself. At this time, the sun is high in the sky, meaning you’ll soak up the sun and top up your tan as you go, ensure you have some sun protection with you.
