One of the most favoured beaches in the west, Cala Bassa is notorious for its soft, golden sand, which stretches over 300 metres long and 30 metres wide. The crystal-clear waters make it popular for swimmers and its gorgeous sunset views make it a beloved spot for hopeless romantics.
Encompassed by a venerable woodland area, the rocky province, lined with trees offers an abundance of shady areas to escape to if the summer heat gets too much.
Popular with international travellers, families, teens and fishermen, Cala Bassa plays home to an eclectic bunch of people in high season, making it one of the busiest beaches in the area. Weekends can be hectic at Cala Bassa so we suggest you arrive early in order to make a day of it. Avoid peak season if you’re not a fan of crowds.
There are many activities for beach goers to enjoy on Cala Bassa. With pedalos, banana boats and jet skis to rent, one can enjoy the different water sports or just relax and cool down in the clear waters.
While catering for cosmopolitan and adventurous visitors, this beach offers other activities for charier visitors. With many flat areas, picnics are popular, along with just laying back and sunbathing. There are quaint little rock pools for little ones to explore and a little flat lake (or ‘bassa’ in Catalan) which is great for kids due to its maximum depth of just 10cm – and likely the origin of the bay’s name.
Other facilities include sunbeds and parasols, toilets, showers and changing rooms. Access for the disabled is provided by wooden ramps and walkways, making it easily accessible. Massages are also available and lifeguards regularly patrol the beach ensuring safety in season.
There are a few main restaurants, which come under the Cala Bassa Beach Club umbrella. CBbC Restaurant offers fusion gourmet dishes, CBbC Chiringo – serves classic local and Mediterranean dishes. CBbC Sushi caters for all their restaurants and is also available for beach service. CBbC Gourmet Corner boasts the finest oysters, foie gras and local cured ham for the more discerning palate and CBbC’s snack bar provides really tasty fast food. There is no shortage of refreshing juices and fabulous cocktails and the beach club exhibits impressive sculptures and is home to little boutiques for bohemian beachwear, trinkets and accessories.
