Pou d’es Lleó beach is one of Ibiza's most beautiful spots. Encompassed by rusty red cliffs and striking rock formations, this horseshoe shaped inlet is off the beaten track and accompanied by magnificent views of the countryside.
Almost completely untouched, Pou d’es Lleó’s natural environment is home to a mixture of fine sand and smooth pebbles. It's stunning environment, calm atmosphere and the serenity makes it popular with the locals. It’s not uncommon to see nudist sunbather due to the sheltering cove offering privacy. At a mere 60 meters long and 10 meters wide, Pou d’es Lleó is the perfect place to get away to for some serious relaxation time.
The crystal-clear, turquoise water and breathtaking underwater scenery makes an amazing snorkeling spot. If you're not a fan of the water, however, the elegant scenery along the coast provides a refreshing country walk.
With loungers and parasols, Pou d’es Lleó has you set for the perfect relaxing beach day. A small beach bar, open until sunset, offers refreshing juices and cocktails, as well as small snacks. Wonder further around the bay to find Restaurante Salvadó, offering traditional Bullit de Peix, paella and fresh fish in a rustic local setting.
Quaint wooden fishing huts on each side of the beach give the cove the feeling of an old timely fishing port. Disabled access means everyone is welcome.
The beauty of Pou d’es Lleó is that it is rarely a busy as many of the beaches at any time of day. Even in the height of summer when the rest of the island is coping with the hustle and bustle of tourists, Pou d’es Lleo remains relatively quiet.
The name, Pou d’es Lleó, translates to ‘Well of León’ in Catalan, likely referring to the owner, line or motif of León, documented in Ibiza since 1555.
Located in the north-east of Ibiza, Pou d’es Lleó is lies just meters away from the Torre d'en Valls, a tower built to protect the island from pirate attacks. From the tower, one can also experience picturesque views of Tagomago, a privately owned island off the coast of the mainland.
Reached only by car, Pou d’es Lleó can be found just north from San Carlos, following the signposts. Continue through Cala Boix, until you come to a junction for Pou d’es Lleó Bay. Being a 40 minute drive from San Antonio, a 30 minute drive from Ibiza Town and a mere 10 minute drive from San Carlos, this quiet little bay is easy to reach.
There are few parking spots along the beach. Although this is limited, the beach is rarely very busy, thus ensuring you a parking space most of the time.
